Curator Graciela Montich brings together national and international artists whose works move across geometry, identity, memory and contemporary experience at Lucid Art Gallery in the Miami Design District.
Miami, FL…September 9, 2026…CHROMA 2026 returns to Lucid Art Gallery in the Miami Design District during Miami Art Week with CONSTELLATIONS, a curatorial vision developed by Graciela Montich around the relationships that emerge when distinct artistic practices occupy a shared space. The exhibition opens with a public reception on Wednesday, December 2, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and remains on view through December 16, presenting work by 22 national and international artists across painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media and functional art.
A Constellation Rather Than a Single Point of View
For Montich, the diversity of CHROMA is fundamental to the exhibition rather than something that needs to be reconciled. Gestural abstraction, geometry, figuration, Pop Art, nature, landscape, portraiture and material exploration coexist without pursuing a unified aesthetic. Instead, connections emerge through color, texture, memory, culture and emotion.
“A constellation doesn’t ask every star to look the same. Each has its own light, but our understanding changes when we begin to see the relationships between them,” says Montich. “With CHROMA, I want visitors to experience the artists individually, but also to discover the unexpected connections that emerge between different cultures, materials, memories and ways of seeing.”
Four participating artists illustrate the breadth of those connections particularly well.
Julieta Abdon: Making Invisible Forces Visible
Berlin-based Argentine artist Julieta Abdon approaches abstraction through systematic observation and geometric structure. Working across large-scale oil painting and physical erosion techniques, she examines electromagnetic fields and the structural patterns she sees operating beneath visible matter. Her international practice has included exhibitions, installations and live-drawing projects throughout Berlin, including KunstRaum Bethanien, the European Film Market and the Argentine Embassy.
For CHROMA 2026, Abdon’s Integration of the Light explores spheres moving toward a central generator and the vesica piscis—the form created through the intersection of two circles. The work considers geometry and the dynamics of light as forces existing behind matter.
“Behind matter are rules of geometry and dynamics of light that move through it,” says Abdon. “Integration of the Light explores spheres in the act of integration, moving toward a primary generator that is found in the middle.”
Aparneet Mann: Wonder, Displacement and the Modern World
Born in Assam and raised across India in an army family, Aparneet Mann describes constant movement and displacement as formative influences on her practice. Her paintings use surreal animal imagery to explore the fast pace of contemporary life, consumerism, celebration, urbanization and the increasingly fragile relationship between people and the natural world.
Mann holds a BFA from Visva Bharati, Shantiniketan and an MFA in Painting from the College of Art, Chandigarh. Her practice spans painting and multimedia, and one of her paintings was acquired by the Columbus Museum of Art. Her work invites viewers into vibrant, imaginative scenes while introducing underlying questions about displacement, consumption and environmental change.
Olivier Casse: Perception, Memory and Meaning
Belgian-born figurative painter Olivier Casse, based in Miami, brings more than four decades of artistic practice and rigorous classical training to work that explores perception, memory and the construction of personal and collective narratives. His conceptual framework, Quantum Mapping, considers how meaning can remain fluid and open to multiple interpretations.
Casse brings iconic ideas, images and figures from history into reconfigured pictorial systems where past and present can occupy the same visual field. Grounded in traditional representational methods, his work moves beyond representation to examine how symbols and memories shape ideas of truth and possibility.
Bernard Ouellette: When a Line Becomes a Language
For Montreal-born Bernard Ouellette, complexity begins with one of art’s most elemental gestures: the line.
Ouellette’s artistic language developed alongside his studies in visual arts, architecture and design. While creating an architectural portfolio, he began with the question, “How can a line become an architectural space?” That investigation developed into compositions in which continuous layered lines accumulate into movement, depth and recognizable forms.
His portraits occupy the space between abstraction and representation. Faces emerge through repetition and density, with line operating simultaneously as structure and expressive language. Through this process, a minimal abstract element becomes a means of exploring complexity, identity and psychological expression.
Maeba Hinrichsen: Transforming Experience Into Matter
Chilean artist Maeba Hinrichsen brings another dimension to CONSTELLATIONS through a practice rooted in color, memory and lived experience.
For Hinrichsen, color is a way of responding to the world and transforming experience into something enduring. Each canvas begins with an intensity that she works into form, allowing lived experience to become fixed in matter and ultimately become painting.
Her work reflects a strong commitment to craftsmanship and memory, while her broader vision extends beyond her own studio toward cultural initiatives, workshops and opportunities that support other artists.
